Hingham Hands Silver Lake A Madden(ing) Day
Hingham - Sophomore left hander Rob Madden shut down a potent Silver Lake lineup Thursday to record his first varsity win and lead Hingham to a 9-2 win in the home opener. Senior Andrew Pompeo went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored while fellow senior Eric Sherman also drove in 3 runs going 2-for-4. Senior tri-captain Kevin Zyrkowski continued to swing a hot bat collecting 2 more hits. Hingham's other two captains also made significant contributions as Jake McGuiggan reached base 4 times and scored each time. Nick Albert made a tremendous catch in left that saved a couple of runs and prevent Silver Lake from potentially posting a big inning. He also forced a key error by the Lakers with excellent hustle on a 2-out ground ball. Madden was the story for the Harbormen though as he baffled Silver Lake with his wide array of pitches. He gave up just 3 hits and one earned run over 5 solid innings. Junior David Hogan worked two scoreless innings to close out the game. The Harbormen, who improve to 2 and 0, are back in action at Scituate on Monday.
